CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.MD.D.10
Draw a picture graph and a bar graph (with single-unit scale) to represent a data set with up to four categories. Solve simple put-together, take-apart, and compare problems1using information presented in a bar graph.

Materials/Manipulatives:  
  • Plus 10 addition cards

    • T29, Ten-Frame Cards (Tens) Cut out ten-frame
  • Markers, Papers
  • Student Activity Book: Pages 1-2
Main Focus
  • Grouping data into categories based on similar attributes
  • Representing a set of data sorted into categories
  • Compering representations of a set of data
  • Using equations to show how the sum of the responses in each category equals the total responses collected
  • Valley Notes: Could also record data on a line plot.

Session 1.2:  Guess My Rule with Yekttis
Materials:  
  • Ten-Frame Cards Cut apart and store in an envelope.
  • Yekttis Cards:  M6 -M37 Spanish:  R6 & R37

Main Focus:
  • Using known combinations to add two or more numbers
  • Relating the doubles and near-doubles combinations

  • Choosing a survey question: Favorite Weekend Activity:  Students respond to a survey question about their favorite weekend activity and discuss ways to organize the data.

Students had the opportunity to create a bar graph with the data they collected as a class.
