​1.1 Ten Turns (Game)
​Students learn and play Ten Turns, a game that involves rolling a number cube, collecting counters, and keeping track of the total.  Class discussion focuses on strategies for efficient counting, particularly counting on.

  • Organizing objects to count them more efficiently

​1.2 Revisiting the 100 Chart (Game)
​Students make observations about the 100 chart and then play Missing Numbers, identifying and recording numbers that are missing from a 100 chart. Math Workshop focuses on the number sequence from 1 to 100.

    and on the 100 chart
  • Identifying, reading, writing, and sequencing numbers
    to 100
  • Counting and keeping track of amounts up to 60

1.3A Counting to 120 and Beyond (Skip lesson 1.3)
  • Students revisit counting strips, writing the number sequence as high as they can. Math Workshop focuses on the number sequence from 1 to 100 and beyond. The session ends with a whole-class round of Missing Numbers.

Classroom Routine - Tell a Story Write "10 – 8 = " on chart paper. Ask students to suggest a story problem. After several students have shared ideas, have students solve the problem. If time permits, repeat using "10 – 2 =".
